CLERK, N. W., [pseudonym of C. S. Lewis (1898-1963).

A Grief Observed.

London: Faber & Faber, 1961.

FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.60; [4]. Publisher's grey cloth lettered in gilt to spine.

Bookseller's stamp and a gift inscription to flyleaf, neat annotation to final page of text. Endpapers toned. Cloth a little rubbed and worn. Very good. A curious copy with the textblock conforming to the first edition but with the author C. S. Lewis given on the binding on the spine (with the correct Faber cloth and tooling). The gift inscription to the flyleaf is dated 1964 so perhaps a leftover copy bound up in a second edition binding.

C. S. Lewis' reflection on grief published pseudonymously after the passing of his wife.
