Christina Hole - Witchcraft in England - First Edition
HOLE, Christina (1896-1985), [PEAKE, Mervyn, illustrator].
Witchcraft in England.
London: B.T. Batsford Ltd, 1945.
FIRST EDITION, first printing. Octavo (23 x 16cm), pp.168. Publisher's red cloth, gilt titles to spine, red top edge. Striking dust-jacket with printed price of 21s. net to front flap. Profusely and atmospherically illustrated by Mervyn Peake throughout with a combination of full page plates and in text illustrations.
Textblock lightly toned, with some light occasional spotting. Top edge stain bright with just a few marks, moderate spotting to other edges. Cloth very fresh and clean. Dust-jacket shows very well, split all along the upper spine fold and halfway down the rear flap fold, now neatly repaired with archival tape to reverse. Spine panel a little toned. Small hole to spine panel, all folds a little rubbed, some light bruising to edges and a couple of small closed tears. A tidy copy of a book rather hard to find in presentable condition. Very good.
