FIRST EDITION, first printing. Octavo (19 x 14cm), pp.[4]; viii;164. Publisher's dark red cloth blocked in blind to lower board, in black to upper board with gilt device, and with gilt titles to spine, Binder's ticket of T. Gates, Darton & Co, Hatton Gardens to rear pastedown. All edges gilt, brown coated endpapers.
Ownership inscription to title page, otherwise unmarked. Binding remains solid although the endpapers have split along both gutters. Cloth a little toned to spine with some wear to endcaps. Near fine.
A rare collection of essays by the noted anti-vivisectionist and women's suffrage campaigner. A scarce title with no other British first editions seen for sale and only patchily represented in institutional holdings.
