One of 500 copies printed to mark 50 years since the play was first published, in this case issued one year late due to wartime difficulties. Inscribed by the editor to Irene Cooper Willis to the flyleaf.

Some slight bubbling to the cloth. Fine.

A copy with an interesting provenance, the recipient was Irene Cooper Willis, a barrister and literary scholar who served as the executor of Thomas Hardy's estate following the death of his second wife Florence Dugdale.
