CHURCHILL, Winston S. (1874-1965).

The Second World War. The Gathering Storm; Their Finest Hour; The Grand Alliance; The Hinge of Fate; Closing the Ring & Triumph and Tragedy.

London: Cassell & Co. Ltd., 1948-1954.

COMPLETE FIRST EDITIONS, first impressions. Six volumes, octavos (22 x 15 x 28cm). Publisher's black cloth, gilt titles to spine, patterned endpapers, top edges stained red. Dust-jackets priced between 25 and 30s. net. All plates and plans present and correct. A heavy set that will incur additional charges for international postage.

No annotation, top stain only a little faded, moderate spotting to edges, and very occasionally within. Cloth well preserved and clean. Dust-jackets all retain their original printed prices to the front flaps, toned to spines with some fading to the red text as often found, some chipping and tears, mostly around the top and bottom of the spines, now with neat archival tape reinforcement to reverse. An attractive set that sits very well together. Very good.

Churchill's monumental history of The Second World War, the conflict that has predominately defined his legacy.
